Conga Foods Case Study

Conga Foods is one of Australia’s leading private, family-owned companies in the grocery industry. They distribute through all retail channels, wholesale and industrial, nationally around Australia. Their brands can be seen on the shelves of the biggest supermarkets all the way down to the small corner delicatessen.

The Head Office is located in Melbourne, Victoria, and has offices and warehouses in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Brief
Conga Foods’ growth continues creating the need for a new warehouse. A 6,500 m² facility was secured in North Coburg, Victoria. Their existing facility required an extended freezer and cool room storage. Their goal was to increase their storage rates significantly.

Solution
Bowen Storage provided the full design and installation of a storage solution for 5500 pallet locations. The storage was provided with a mixture of single and double-deep selective pallet racking to achieve an optimum storage density and, at the same time, provide access to 50% of pallets. This ensures that a high range of different SKUs are accessible at all times.

The project also included working with the client to provide location label ID solutions to work with their existing WMS and ensure accurate location and tracking of perishable food products. We had to ensure the material, print & install solutions were durable and guaranteed in the very negative temperature environment.

All racking was fitted with a heavy-duty front beam to minimise the risk of damage to the bottom beam on double-deep racking.

Conga Foods has extended its facility with a freezer and cool room storage. Each room is 10 metres high and is accessed by state-of-the-art materials handling equipment.

Results

Bowen Storage worked directly with the builder (both sites or just one) to get early on site and meet the client’s timelines. Conga Foods now have an extended cool room and freezing storage, providing them with a 50% increase in pallet storage. The new warehouse facility provides additional storage space to support their growing business.
