Kevin Dennis Motors Case Study
Kevin Dennis Motors has been synonymous with major vehicle brands since the mid-1960s. They have extensive vehicle showrooms and service departments for GMSV, Holden, HSV, Volkswagen, and Skoda in Deer Park, Victoria. Their distribution centre provides parts for all vehicles through their service centres.
Brief
Due to external factors, Kevin Dennis Distribution was required to relocate from their old site to a new location. They had a very tight timeline to complete the move.
The new facility allowed them to increase their stock holding and inventory management efficiencies.
Solution
Our design team worked with the Kevin Dennis operations team to develop a warehouse layout that maximised efficiencies in handling the goods stored. We learned about the challenges they had experienced with their existing site and presented solutions to overcome them. As a result, Bowen Storage was able to provide a quick design turnaround.
We worked with them on a transition plan from the old location to the new facility that would have the least amount of disruption to their day-to-day operations and despatch of orders.
We commenced works on site within ten days of approval to proceed from the client. With our large stock holding of racking, our ability to be agile to client needs assisting their project to be completed on time.
The installation included a high-density storage system design of pallet racking, bulky parts racking, small parts shelving, hand railing, high-density cabinets, and workbenches.
Results
By implementing high-density storage systems, we were able to provide a solution that saved more than 80% of footprint space for small parts, leaving additional warehouse space for bulky parts storage and retrieval. This, in turn, increases stock accuracy and reduces stock damage.
